Very READ-y

The Very READ-y Project is helping pre-school children in the Point Douglas neighbourhood improve their language skills so they will thrive when they begin school.

Literacy programming in Point Douglas

Many of these kids have not had the opportunity to learn the letters of the alphabet or their sounds, that writing proceeds from left to right, or how to write their own names.

Through fun speech and language development and family literacy activities held in early learning and family resource centres, as well as nursery schools, Very READ-y programming is ensuring kids benefit throughout the neighbourhood. The multi-faceted program, developed in partnership with parents, also encourages family bonding, nutrition and physical activity.

Our Very READ-y initiative is a collaboration with Bookmates Inc, which provides literacy training, and Mandioo Gi Miini Gonaan, an early learning education centre in Point Douglas.
