The Province of Manitoba joins The Winnipeg Foundation to offer the biggest stretch available during the Endow Manitoba 24-Hour Giving Challenge

For immediate release:

Manitobans are encouraged to make a gift to their local community foundation on Saturday, Nov. 18 as part of the Endow Manitoba 24-Hour Giving Challenge. On that day only, each $5 gift you make becomes $7! There’s never been a better time to help your community flourish forever!

The Winnipeg Foundation will stretch each $5 gift made to a community foundation with $1 (to a maximum of $2,000 per foundation). New this year! The Province of Manitoba will also contribute $1 for every $5 gift (to a maximum of $2,000 per foundation). This is the biggest stretch ever available during the 24-Hour Giving Challenge! Please note, gifts must be made to a community foundation’s undesignated fund.

Manitoba is home to 55 community foundations – the most community foundations per capita in the country. Odds are your favourite community has a community foundation. Visit endowmanitoba.ca to find it, or see the attached map.

“This is the fourth year we’ve held the 24-Hour Giving Challenge, and the biggest stretch that’s ever been available,” said Rick Frost, CEO of The Winnipeg Foundation. “Almost $1.2 million was raised in previous years. With the new support from the Province of Manitoba, we have an expanded opportunity to help our communities flourish forever!”

"On behalf of our government I want to encourage Manitobans to show once again why we are known as Canada's most generous province by supporting the important work our community foundations do throughout Manitoba," said Municipal Relations Minister Jeff Wharton. "On November 18 we are partnering with The Winnipeg Foundation on this year's 24-Hour Giving Challenge to raise funds and ensure our community foundations continue to grow.”

Ways to give:

  • Online gifts can be made securely through www.endowmanitoba.ca
  • Call The Winnipeg Foundation on Saturday, Nov. 18 between 9 a.m. and 3 p.m. to make a gift by credit card over the phone. 1-204-944-9474 or toll-free at 1-877-974-3631
  • Contact your local community foundation on or before Saturday, Nov. 18 to give by cheque

Gifts to community foundations are pooled and permanently invested. The capital is never spent. Every year, the investments generate income that is distributed as grants to local charities. Community foundations provide support that lasts forever.

Every year, community foundations invest millions of dollars into a wide range of local charitable projects. They help ensure our hometowns are vibrant and thriving.

The Winnipeg Foundation, Canada’s first community foundation, was established in 1921. Built by people from all walks of life, The Foundation pools and invests gifts entrusted to it to generate grants that benefit a variety of local charitable needs For Good. Forever.
