It isn’t often you see an absolute tragedy bring forth something eternally positive.

Colin and Janet Paterson are the co-founders of the Friends of Hailey Foundation, in honour of their daughter who passed away when she was only 10 months old.

The Friends of Hailey Foundation is set up to support the parents and children of the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) at Children’s Hospital in Winnipeg, as well as support a scholarship for graduating students at St. Mary’s Academy who plan to pursue a career in any medical field.

Because their fund is set up at The Winnipeg Foundation, it will be around literally forever, and Hailey’s legacy will be helping people in perpetuity.

“Our succession plan is four years old,” Colin Paterson says as he and his wife Janet share a laugh.

That succession plan is for Noah, their four year old son, who will some day be taking over in managing the endowment fund set up in his big sister’s name.

The Winnipeg Foundation sat down with Colin and Janet Paterson to talk about Hailey’s Story, and the incredible legacy they’ve created for their daughter that’s truly going to last forever.
