Since The Winnipeg Foundation was established more than eight decades ago, countless organizations have benefited from our community grants program. In our 2009 fiscal year alone, approximately 670 different charities received approximately $20.8 million in financial support. And the credit rests squarely on the shoulders of the thousands of donors who have entrusted our organization with their gifts. The dream they all share is captured in our vision statement – "a Winnipeg where community life flourishes".

Any successful grant-making program ultimately relies on the efforts of those that put the resources to work in an effective and tangible way. We are very proud to partner with so many worthwhile organizations that not only enrich our community but also have such a meaningful impact on individual lives.

In recent years, The Winnipeg Foundation has enjoyed unprecedented growth in the establishment of new endowment funds - created by donors from all walks of life. Thanks to these caring people, Canada's first community foundation will continue to address the needs of our city for generations to come.

At the same time, difficult investment markets are posing new challenges. We are very aware of the important balance between grant making and the responsibility to protect capital as a legacy for the future. We hope that this website makes our operations fully transparent and we invite any comments, questions or suggestions for improvement. We are certainly willing to visit with any individual or organization that would like to know more about our policies and operations.
