Young and old participate in the many activities at the barbeque
Residents of Centennial Neighbourhood kicked off the summer with face painting, pony rides and hot dogs. The neighbourhood’s annual community barbeque was held earlier this week at Dufferin School.
The family-focused event gives residents and community organizations the opportunity to celebrate their hard work over the year and acknowledge the partnerships that help improve the quality of life in the neighbourhood.
Through the Centennial Neighbourhood Project, The Winnipeg Foundation collaborates with residents, community organizations and government agencies to help revitalize the area. The five-year multi-faceted initiative, centered around Dufferin School, is based on the principle that “education is ticket out of poverty.”
Addressing the challenges in the neighbourhood, the project has supported family literacy initiatives, in-school and family programs, and strategies to provide affordable housing. The focus of the initiative is to build on the area’s existing strengths and promote a supportive and inclusive community. Bordered by Sherbrook and Princess Streets and William and Logan Avenues, Centennial Neighbourhood is often described as one of the most challenged areas in Winnipeg.
The Centennial Neighbourhood Project is The Winnipeg Foundation's most ambitious community building project to date. The Foundation is proud to work with the residents and community organizations towards solutions that will have a lasting impact on the neighbourhood.
