The Royal Winnipeg Rifles Regiment Armourial Crest
The Royal Winnipeg Rifles Regiment is putting its rich history to paper.
Over the past ten years, the Royal Winnipeg Rifles Regimental Advisory Board has interviewed every living regiment veteran of the First and Second World War and drawn materials from the Manitoba Archives, University of Manitoba, Winnipeg Free Press and all three levels of government. The goal is to have a comprehensive record of the regiment’s history, including both their triumphs and set backs.
Established in 1883, the regiment was the second law enforcement agency in Western Canada led by commanding officer, William Nassau Kennedy – Winnipeg’s second mayor.
The book will commemorate Western Canada’s oldest and most-highly decorated infantry regiment’s 125th anniversary. It will be presented at a celebration in September 2008.
In keeping with the regiment’s mission to preserve and promote its role in history, the Advisory Board intends to have copies of the book in every library and school in Manitoba.
The Winnipeg Foundation is proud to support organizations, such as the Royal Winnipeg Rifles Regimental Advisory Board, in their efforts to preserve and share the stories of our veterans.
