Siloam Mission's Dental Coordinator with outreach program volunteers and patient
For the approximately 1,700 homeless people living in Winnipeg, Siloam Mission is a safe and welcoming place to get everything from a hot meal to a brighter smile.
Every day Siloam addresses the immediate needs of more than 400 poor and homeless with food, shelter and clothing. For those who are looking to make a lasting change, Siloam also offers many services and support, including counselling, employment training and health care.
Siloam’s dental outreach program provides free dental care from basic treatments to preventative care and dentures. The program helps improve the overall health of patients and helps them gain self-confidence and independence.
Last year, volunteer dentists and hygienists provided dental services for 522 visitors to Siloam’s health centre. Since it opened in 2007, local health professionals have generously donated their time and skills to offer health care with dignity and respect.
The Winnipeg Foundation makes grants to local charitable organizations in a broad range of areas, including community service. In 2008, Siloam Mission’s dental outreach program was one of the 650 different grants the Foundation made totaling $19.2 million. A complete list of the Foundation’s grants can be found in our 2008 annual report,
