Manitoba is now home to 43 community foundations – charitable organizations, just like The Winnipeg Foundation, which support local projects thanks to gifts made by donors. This year, three new foundations have joined this vital philanthropic movement in our province: Coldwell Community Foundation, Lac Du Bonnet and District Charitable Foundation, and Wawanesa Community Foundation.
Through permanently endowed gifts, made by people from all walks of life, community foundations support causes and agencies within a specific region. These investments are improving lives, strengthening families and building stronger communities from Thompson to Deloraine. Together, Manitoba community foundations outside Winnipeg granted $1.46 million in 2008.
The Winnipeg Foundation is pleased to be part of this network and provides assistance to Manitoba foundations through grants for administration, reporting and professional development. The Winnipeg Foundation has also just published the fourth issue of Community Roots, a magazine that profiles Manitoba communtiy foundations.
