Lord Selkirk Park Resource Centre staff
Lord Selkirk Park is one of our city’s most economically-challenged neighbourhoods. However, it’s also a community of many strengths and home to organizations that work with residents to address issues, nurture ideas and revitalize the area.
The Lord Selkirk Park Resource Centre offers a variety of services to local residents, from telephone access and laundry facilities to counseling and skill development workshops. It also empowers residents to address local issues and build new hope.
The Centre is just one of the community organizations in Lord Selkirk Park supported by The Winnipeg Foundation last year. Turtle Island Tots and Families received a grant through the Literacy for Life Fund for its weekly family literacy program. Kekinan Centre, which provides housing to low income Aboriginal seniors, received a grant to improve accessibility and emergency facilities.
Last year, The Winnipeg Foundation made 670 grants totaling $20.8 million to a broad range of local charitable organizations. Complete information is available in the Foundation’s 2009 Annual Report, Strengthening Neighbourhoods. Download the report, and a companion document Investing in Turbulent Times, from the Publications section of our website. To receive a copy by mail, call 944.9474 or click here to send an email.
