PACE program participants at Broadway Neighbourhood Centre
Every week night, three inner-city community centres connect aboriginal youth with their community, and their heritage.
Positive Athletic Cultural Experience (PACE), a program coordinated by Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre, provides youth with opportunities to play sports, learn traditional dance and language, and participate in other athletic and cultural activities. Based at Turtle Island Community Centre, Broadway Neighbourhood Centre, and Weston Community Centre, the program helps youth build positive relationships, create healthier lifestyles and explore their aboriginal traditions.
The PACE program has received support from The Winnipeg Foundation for the past four years and is featured in Connecting, the Foundation’s 2007 annual report.
Earlier this month, The Winnipeg Foundation released the report and made several special announcements at its annual Ambassador’s Luncheon, including a milestone grant to St. Amant Research Centre and its Downtown Green Spaces Strategy.
The Foundation’s 2007 annual report profiles grant recipients, donors and community projects. The report will be available in the publications section of our website, in early February. To receive a copy by mail, call 944.9474 or email info@wpgfdn.org.
