The ground may be frozen, but the organic movement continues to grow and flourish all year long in Manitoba, thanks to the Organic Food Council of Manitoba.

The Council, a provincial chapter of Canadian Organic Growers, is committed to helping our community produce and access locally grown, organic foods. The Council provides information resources and networking opportunities for growers and consumers promoting organic food and its associated environmental, health and social benefits.

More than 60 Manitoba farmers, market gardeners, consumers and food distributors make up the council. Some of the farms are shared community agricultural projects, where many people contribute to the cost and labour of a farm and share the organic produce it yields throughout the season.

The Organic Food Council was one of 680 local charitable organizations that received support from The Winnipeg Foundation, in 2007. Last year, grants from the Foundation totaled $17.8 million. The Council was also one of the grant recipients recently profiled in the Foundation’s 2007 annual report, Connecting. The report can be viewed online or downloaded from the Publications section of our website. For a print copy, please call our office at 944.9474.
