Resource Conservation Manitoba is challenging Manitobans to park their cars and walk, bike, take transit or carpool to work next week.
The Commuter Challenge is a friendly national competition that encourages Canadians to choose sustainable and healthy ways to get to and from work during Environment Week, June 1 – 7.
Participating workplaces and individuals record the number of “green” kilometres they accumulate on their daily commute. Workplaces are ranked by rate of participation in categories based on number of employees, while cities across the country are ranked based on their population.
Resource Conservation Manitoba is the challenge organizer for Manitoba, providing information, promotional material, and prizes for challenge winners.
Since Manitoba’s first Commuter Challenge in 2000, participants have logged more than 2 million “green” kilometres and avoided producing more than 400 tonnes of greenhouse gas emissions.
The Winnipeg Foundation has participated in the challenge since 2006 and encourages all Manitobans to explore green commuting options – for their health and a healthy community.
