What is an endowment fund?
An endowment fund is where gifts are pooled and permanently invested as capital and only an annual amount earned, determined by our Spending Policy, is used for charitable purposes.

(All funds are pooled and invested in the Foundation’s Consolidated Trust Fund so that full service is provided to each while ensuring that more money is available for grantmaking and less to overhead.)

For more information about the Consolidated Trust Fund and Spending Policy, read our most current Report on Investment Results (PDF).
Why should I establish an endowment fund?
Establishing a named endowment fund allows you to support the community in the way that best suits your needs and wishes. Most funds can be established through a simple letter of direction and through any type of gift, including deferred gifts.
Who can establish an endowment fund?
Anyone can establish an endowment fund with The Winnipeg Foundation. Establishing a fund is not complicated and does not require great wealth.

You can create a fund that encourages philanthropy in your family and includes them in the giving process. For more information on how to get your family involved, visit our Family Philanthropy page.

Sometimes groups of like-minded individuals come together to create a fund to support causes that they are passionate about.
How can The Winnipeg Foundation help me establish an endowment fund?
The Foundation provides many services that can help you create an endowment fund tailored to your own values and interests and you choose how involved you want to be with your gift and grantmaking. For more information, visit our Support for Donors page.

The Foundation handles the administration of funds, including tax receipts, payments to charitable organizations, and customized financial reports.
What are the types of endowment funds?
There are many types of funds available. To determine the best fit for your charitable goals, visit our Types of Funds page.
