The Winnipeg Foundation launches Website at Annual Community Celebration
The Winnipeg Foundation celebrated the role technology plays in the community by focusing on local charitable organizations that have received technology-related grants in the past year. The Foundation then went on to launch its own website at the event.

Hundreds of representatives from across the spectrum of charitable agencies supported by grants from the Foundation, as well as donors, attended the afternoon gathering.

"This year has been remarkable indeed," said Chief Justice Richard Scott, Chair of the Foundation's Board of Directors. In the past fiscal year more than 70 grants made by the Foundation through its main granting program and Post Secondary Grants Program have been related to technology.

From grants for a video camera purchase by the University of Winnipeg's Theatre Program to a grant for database expansion, training and network development at Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre, to supporting Childfind's Cybertip online program and the CNIB's national That All May Read campaign, the grants have assisted local charitable organizations with their technological needs.

"Putting grant money to good use is only possible because of applications we receive from committed and credible agencies," Chief Justice Scott said. "The Winnipeg Foundation basks in the reflection of their good works," he added.

"We have established more endowment funds than in any year in our history. People from all walks of life have contributed to scholarship building campaigns and agency funds as well as to their own family endowments. And it was only 10 months ago that we announced the largest gift ever made to a community foundation in all of Canada-that unbelievably-generous gift of $100 million from the Moffat Family. We take this opportunity today to express our deepest appreciation to all of our donors, on behalf of the community, for their gifts and for their confidence in The Winnipeg Foundation," he said at the celebration.

The technology theme for the celebration set the tone for the launch of the Foundation's website. A six-month project, developed with the support of an anonymous donor, www.wpgfdn.org reflects the Foundation's 81 years of history and provides visitors with up-to-date information about the Foundation, its programs and activities.
