Grants Program Strengthens Community Foundations
The Winnipeg Foundation and Manitoba Hydro help Manitoba's community foundations

Twenty-five of Manitoba's community foundations will receive administrative support through a new three year program funded by The Winnipeg Foundation in partnership with Manitoba Hydro.

Under the Administrative Support Program, grants are made to community foundations across the province based on the size of the local community foundation and its growth in 2002 over 2001. Grants paid under this program can be used at the discretion of local Boards to strengthen their community foundations. During this first year of the program, grants varied between $430 and $9,825.

"We are most pleased to see that the asset base of the 25 community foundations outside of Winnipeg grew by $1.5 million from $15.7 million to $17.2 million. A growth rate of 10% clearly demonstrates the vitality of Manitoba's community foundation movement," says Richard Frost, Chief Executive Officer of The Winnipeg Foundation.

The greatest percentage growth in 2002 came from the North Norfolk MacGregor Foundation where the asset base increased by 127%. The largest increase in absolute dollar terms came from the Boissevain and Morton Foundation which received new permanent gifts of $224,085. Five Manitoba community foundations did not apply.

"Manitoba Hydro works in all of these areas and we know that there is a strong commitment to local communities throughout our province. It is great to be part of a program that encourages local leadership and builds a legacy for generations to come. The annual grants from community foundations make a difference to the quality of life across Manitoba," says Bob Brennan, Chief Executive Officer of Manitoba Hydro.

A complete listing of the recipient community foundations follows.
