Foundation supports Cultural Centre renovations
The Winnipeg Foundation made a grant of $40,000 to the Winnipeg Chinese Cultural and Community Centre to support kitchen renovations. The project is part of a $200,000 upgrade initiative supported by all three levels of government . It was announced by Cathy Auld, Director of Donor Relations (photo inset) at a public celebration on March 5th.

Foundation supports MB Children's Museum
The Manitoba Children’s Museum recently launched its capital campaign. The Winnipeg Foundation is supporting the museum through a $1million matching grant program.

Foundation helps warm Habitat House
Joanna Fultz, Youth in Philanthropy Convenor (left), brings greetings from The Winnipeg Foundation to new homeowner, Tess (right) at a Habitat for Humanity home dedication. In 2009, the Foundation made a grant to the organization to support a new Construction Project Manager position as well as software.
Flip Camera Program
The Winnipeg Foundation’s Flip Camera Program is available to charitable agencies that have received a grant. Organizations can borrow a Flip camera to record events, activities or programs and the video submission may be posted on the Foundation’s website. Imagine Canada's new Charity Tax Tools website is for charitable organizations and legal and accounting professionals who support charities. The site provides information on receipting, maintaining records and reporting to the CRA. Check out the website.
Royal Winnipeg Rifles Regimental Advisory Board celebrates 'Little Black Devils'
An updated 125th anniversary publication, Named by the Enemy, on Winnipeg’s famous ‘Little Black Devils’ was launched by the board in early January. The Foundation provided a grant for the project and Grants Coordinator, Jennifer Partridge, joined Bill Spence at the launch at Minto Armory.
Scholarships help Students in our Community
Winnipeg Foundation Scholarship Officer Pat Lilley (right) presents an award to Collège universitaire de Saint-Boniface student Meghan Rauch (left). The award, was one of 33 scholarships represented at the Collège’s recent Soirée d’excellence 2009-2010. The Foundation is home to more than 200 scholarship funds.
Faron Hall Fund's First Grant
On Dec. 16th, Foundation CEO Rick Frost (left) and Faron Hall (right) presented the first grant from the Faron Hall Fund for the Homeless to Main Street Project ED, Brian Bechtel (centre) as part of a special event recognizing Hall’s lifesaving efforts and the fund named in his honour.
To make an online gift to the fund, click here. Currently, an anonymous donor is matching gifts to the fund which supports organizations that help homeless people with a "hand up" or by "bridging gaps".
Most Generous for 10th Year
According to Fraser Institute's 2009 Generosity Index report, Manitoba is Canada's most generous province - for the 10th consecutive year. Manitoba has the highest percentage of tax filers donating to registered charities (27.3%) and of income donated, at 1.02%.

Inner City Science Centre (ICSC) Opens

The Foundation was pleased to take part in the official opening of the ICSC on December 10th. Located in Niji Mahkwa School, the Centre offers students access to cutting edge lab facilities and instruction. The Centre provides hands-on training and learning opportunities for students of all ages from across the City. The program is a partnership of the University of Manitoba Faculty of Medicine, Winnipeg School Division and the Foundation.
North End Wellness Centre
Officially opened on December 4, the Centre is a vibrant community hub that offers fitness, recreation, healthcare, childcare and a host of other wellness services to the neighbourhood. The project has been a partnership of YMCA-YWCA of Winnipeg, Ma Mawi Wi Chi Itata Centre, Splash Childcare, Winnipeg Regional Health Authority and a range of funders. The Winnipeg Foundation was pleased to support this project with a grant of $150,000.
