A quiet gathering place for all

Arts, Culture & Heritage

A new Indigenous lodge has been built at Niizhoziibean, the south point of The Forks. The lodge is a light frame structure that honours a long-standing tradition of raising temporary shelters for ceremonies that remain public and accessible between communal events. The lodge will be rebuilt every year as an event open to all.

During the past few years, the south point area of The Forks has been undergoing a renewal, including a new walkway, terrace seating, and landscaping, to create opportunities for gatherings, and a place to meet in a quiet space, away from the bustle of The Forks. The Winnipeg Foundation provided support for the renewal as part of our ongoing commitment to green spaces and to Truth and Reconciliation.

In this short video Niigaan Sinclair talks about the lodge and the Gathering Space.
