Jubilee Fund Investment Matching Challenge

Community

For Immediate Release: The Jubilee Fund uses investment funds to provide loan guarantees to community groups for projects that reduce poverty and financial exclusion.  The investment funds are obtained from the sale of Jubilee Investment Certificates (JICs) to individuals and organizations. The Winnipeg Foundation will match dollar for dollar each investment certificate that Jubilee Fund sells up to $100,000 per year, for the next five years.

“We are pleased to announce today that for every $1,000 Jubilee Investment Certificate sold, The Winnipeg Foundation will invest an additional $1,000; doubling the amounts available for lending and doubling the impact in the community. With The Winnipeg Foundation challenge, Jubilee Fund’s investment lending can be increased by $1M over the next five years,” said Mark Adams Chair of the Jubilee Fund.

“In 2017, the Jubilee Fund conducted an independent evaluation of the impact of our lending activities in Manitoba. The impact on families, individuals and organizations were many, and clearly demonstrate the importance of social financing in today’s non-profit environment,” Adams added.

In 2012 The Winnipeg Foundation invested its first $100,000 with the Jubilee Fund. In each subsequent year The Foundation purchased an additional $100,000, to bring its total investment to $500,000 to date.

“The Winnipeg Foundation is pleased to be investing in the social and economic strength of our community through the Jubilee Fund,” said   Rick Frost CEO of The Winnipeg Foundation.

The Winnipeg Foundation, Canada’s first community foundation, was established in 1921. Last year it made distributions totalling more than $38 million to approximately 900 charitable organizations.

Since the year 2000, Jubilee Fund has financed projects that would not otherwise receive the financing they require to accomplish their mandate or initiate core activities. These organizations contribute to the social service ecosystem in Manitoba and are critical to the success of people struggling with poverty and resettlement challenges.
