The Winnipeg Foundation achieves Imagine Canada accreditation

Community

For immediate release: The Winnipeg Foundation is excited to announce it has been accredited under Imagine Canada’s national Standards Program. With this achievement, it joins a growing community of more than 200 organizations across the country dedicated to operational excellence.

The Standards Program is a Canada-wide set of shared standards for charities and non-profits designed to strengthen practices in five fundamental areas: board governance; financial accountability and transparency; fundraising; staff management; and volunteer involvement. Policies and procedures in the five areas of compliance are evaluated by a peer group of volunteers from the sector.

“The Winnipeg Foundation believes a strong charitable sector is vital to building strong communities,” says Sky Bridges, CEO of The Winnipeg Foundation. “Imagine Canada’s Standards Program supports charities to identify and mitigate organizational risk, improve governance practices, promote financial transparency and accountability, and foster a strong workforce. All of these activities ensure charities can serve their communities in the best ways possible, and it is why The Winnipeg Foundation decided to undertake the accreditation process.”

“Imagine Canada’s Standards Program is the ‘gold seal’ of charitable organization functionality and governance,” says Doneta Brotchie, Board Chair of The Winnipeg Foundation. “We are proud to join the approximately 200 other Canadian charities that have achieved this accreditation. The goals of Imagine Canada’s Standards Program include strengthening public confidence in individual organizations and in the sector as a whole. Trust is the foundation for what matters to us, our stakeholders and those who support us.”

“It’s no small feat for an organization to earn Standards Program accreditation,” says Bruce MacDonald, President and CEO of Imagine Canada. “It’s a rigorous, peer-reviewed process that is meant to build public trust and confidence in the charitable sector. We’re thrilled to welcome The Winnipeg Foundation as our newest accredited organization, and commend their commitment to accountability and operational transparency.”
