The Canada Healthy Communities Initiative (CHCI) is the federal government’s $31 million investment to transform public spaces in response to COVID-19.
CHCI encourages community-level innovation and improvements in the quality of life for residents through physical, social and digital infrastructure.
Community Foundations of Canada, of which The Winnipeg Foundation is a member, is working alongside other partners to deliver the initiative nationally. In Manitoba, CHCI is administered by Community Futures, with applications being reviewed by an advisory committee made up of diverse Manitobans representing a variety of geographic, cultural and other communities. Manitoba has been allocated just over $600,000 for CHCI projects in Round 2. Requests greater than $100,000 will be reviewed locally, then submitted for consideration to a national review committee.
The Healthy Communities Initiative generated significant interest across the country and the first round, which closed March 9, 2021, was highly competitive. See the Healthy Communities Initiative – Round 1 Results.
Applications are submitted online through Community Foundations of Canada’s portal.
