BeCause & Effect #114: Stephanie Scott

On March 14, 2024, the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation (NCTR) and its host, the University of Manitoba announced a $5 million lead gift from The Winnipeg Foundation to support the building of a new permanent home for the NCTR.

Stephanie Scott, executive director of NCTR, joins us to talk about her work with the NCTR and the importance of collecting and preserving Survivors’ stories, and the effect of Indian Residential Schools on our country. During our conversation, we spoke about the history and purpose of the Survivor-led NCTR, the power and importance of ceremony, and how, despite the difficult and traumatic nature of the work, Stephanie and her team stay dedicated to the mission of recording and preserving Survivors’ stories and oral histories for all Canadians to experience and learn from.

This episode is also on The Winnipeg Foundation’s YouTube channel, so you can watch the video of our conversation with Stephanie.
