Foundation supports new centre for NCTR

On March 14, the National Centre for Truth and Reconciliation (NCTR) and its host, the University of Manitoba announced a $5 million lead gift from The Winnipeg Foundation to support the building of a new permanent home for the NCTR.

The Foundation is humbled and honoured to make an important investment in our community and country. Through the generosity of our donors this contribution supports more than 10 decades of their collective belief that we are stronger when we work together.

The NCTR was established through an agreement between the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of Canada (TRC) and the University of Manitoba to provide a home for all statements, documents, and other materials gathered by the TRC. The NCTR and its importance in our country’s journey to reconciliation are reflected in five of the TRC’s 94 Calls to Action (Calls to Action 65, 71, 72, 77 and 78).

The University of Manitoba is embarking on a fundraising campaign to raise $40 million to build the permanent home for the NCTR.

The Foundation believes that the goal of reconciliation will only be achieved if we travel the road of truth, together as a society and hopes its grant in support of NCTR’s new permanent home will inspire others from across the country to support this critical campaign.
