Great grants from the 1950s

1950

$25,000 was granted to the Manitoba Flood Relief Fund.

1952

A grant was made to the Children’s Hospital to help with the polio epidemic.

1955

The Greater Winnipeg Welfare Council receives a grant to address issues facing seniors. Out of this project, an organization called the Age Centre was established, which became A & O two years later.

1957

A $10,000 grant helps establish the Alcoholism Foundation of Manitoba (later Addictions Foundation of Manitoba).

1958

$10,000 is granted to help establish the John Howard and Elizabeth Fry Society.

1959

A $3,500 grant helps establish the Indian and Métis Friendship Centre, in partnership with the federal and provincial governments.
