BeCause & Effect #110: Faustina Dalmacio

This week’s guest on BeCause & Effect is Faustina Dalmacio, one of five filmmakers selected for the first ever Cinematoba Film Fest, a partnership between The Winnipeg Foundation and The National Screen Institute.

Faustina’s film, After School, follows two young sisters who have an after-school adventure, exploring how their community helps them when they lose their way.

Nolan and Faustina talk about Faustina’s experience growing up in a Filipino immigrant family, her approach to Cinematoba as a first-time-filmmaker, and how she conveys the themes of family, generosity, and community in her film.

Cinematoba, a partnership between The Winnipeg Foundation and the National Screen Institute, is an initiative focused on supporting local filmmakers as they share stories of local generosity from across Manitoba. The goal of the program is for all Manitobans to discover what generosity looks like in our province and was originally planned as part of The Foundation’s 2021 centennial celebrations but was delayed to 2022-2023 due to COVID.
