From Nov. 15 to 21, gifts to community foundations across Manitoba are stretched thanks to funding from the Manitoba government and The Winnipeg Foundation
For immediate release: You can help your hometown flourish forever during the Endow Manitoba Giving Challenge! When you support your hometown’s community foundation between Nov. 15 and 21, your $5 gift becomes $7 thanks to stretch funding from the Manitoba government and The Winnipeg Foundation. Why not make a gift today in celebration of National Philanthropy Day?
Community foundations are charities, built by communities for communities. Manitoba is home to 56 community foundations – the most per capita in North America. Led by volunteer boards, each community foundation serves its local community’s unique interests and needs. Endow Manitoba, an initiative of The Winnipeg Foundation, supports the growth and sustainability of these community foundations and coordinates the Giving Challenge.
“The Endow Manitoba Giving Challenge is back for its eighth year,” says Alan Goddard, Director of Endow Manitoba. “The Giving Challenge epitomizes the adage, ‘We can achieve more when we work together.’ Each year during the Giving Challenge, Manitobans demonstrate why we are known as the most generous province. We can’t wait to see what is possible this year.”
“Manitobans are known for their generosity and I encourage everyone to participate in the Endow Manitoba Giving Challenge,” says Minister of Municipal Relations Derek Johnson. “As we’ve seen from the COVID-19 pandemic, we can accomplish so much when we work together, and we can build up all our communities through the Giving Challenge.”
How does the Giving Challenge work? For every $5 gift you make, the Manitoba government will add $1 (to a maximum of $2,000 per foundation per year), and The Winnipeg Foundation will contribute $1 (to a max. of $2,000 per foundation per year). To qualify, gifts must be made to a community foundation’s undesignated fund. This type of fund provides community foundations with the greatest flexibility in responding to their communities’ changing needs and emerging priorities. Gifts to The Winnipeg Foundation’s undesignated funds are not stretched.

Endow Manitoba represents the network of our province’s community foundations. An initiative of The Winnipeg Foundation, Endow Manitoba works with the province’s 56 community foundations to increase their impact and to advance the movement.
The Winnipeg Foundation is For Good. Forever. We help people give back to our shared community by connecting generous donors with causes they care about For Good. We’re an endowment-based public foundation, so gifts are pooled and invested, and the annual earnings are distributed back to the community Forever. Formed in 1921, we are proud to be the first community foundation in Canada.
