Community Grants

• Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) registered charities
• Qualified CRA donees (contact us in this case).
• Organizations following the Manitoba Human Rights Code that do not discriminate based on protected characteristics.
• Organizations who have not received a Community Grant this calendar year, unless collaborating with a non-profit or other charity.
• If applicable, past grantee recipients of a Community Grant who completed their project and have submitted a final report for their previous grant.
• Organizations also applying for another Winnipeg Foundation grant, if this request is for a different project.

Please note: Multi Year Grant recipients are ineligible to apply for Community Grants and Children and Youth Program Grants during their funding period.

Projects must primarily benefit the people of Winnipeg. For projects outside of the City, applicants should demonstrate how the project will also benefit the people of Winnipeg.

Our Community Grants do not support:

• Individuals.
• Government bodies.
• Project costs related to activities undertaken before the date of the Grants Committee or Board decision.
• Annual fundraising campaigns, fundraising positions, or annual fundraising events.
• Pay down mortgages or reduce deficits.
• Political activities.
• Exclusively religious activities (defined as religious worship or instruction), or organizations that engage in proselytizing (defined as converting or recruiting people to a specific set of religious or other beliefs), particularly in the case of youth or other impressionable audiences.
• Other grantmaking or scholarship/student award programs.

• Conferences and events
• Equipment and infrastructure
• Program operating
• Reports and planning
• Capital campaigns
• Short-term operating support
• Organizational development and capacity building

How do you define Collaboration?

A Collaboration means two or more registered charities, or a registered charity and a non-profit organization, jointly planning and implementing a project.

All collaborators must work toward a common goal to increase organizational or program efficiency/effectiveness or to tackle a community issue. For the project, all collaborators must have a shared vision and defined roles and responsibilities, share expertise and resources, and maintain frequent communication from planning through completion.

What information should I include in my application when submitting a collaborative project?

Collaboration applicants must describe the problem or community issue the collaborators aim to solve. Identify your application as a collaboration and list all collaborators and their involvement from planning through completion.

Your application must include a signed letter of agreement that outlines specific roles and responsibilities for each collaborator. If applicable, the project budget form must identify in-kind and cash contributions from each collaborator.
