Student Awards
Congratulations on receiving a student award! Your hard work and dedication have paid off. We hope this award provides meaningful support as you continue your educational journey and pursue your future aspirations.
Student awards are established by thoughtful and generous Foundation donors who want to support students as they pursue their post-secondary education.
Support for Claiming our Student Award
Your community group or high school should have provided you with an award letter outlining the award you received and how to claim it.
If you have any questions or need assistance with the process, we’re happy to help.
If the answer to your question does not appear on this page, please contact us using the form below.
Present your award letter to the student aid and awards office at your post-secondary school. It will apply the award amount towards your tuition and then invoice Winnipeg Foundation. The amount will go directly into your student account at your school.
We understand that some post-secondary institutions do not issue invoices for student awards received externally. Please send a screenshot of your acceptance letter and a screenshot of your course registration showing your full name and student ID number, and we will work with your post-secondary school on your behalf.
Unfortunately, we cannot pay post-secondary institutions outside of Canada. However, in most cases, we can issue a cheque directly to you. We require proof of course registration and/enrollment along with your full mailing address and Social Insurance Number, for award amounts over $500.00, in accordance with Canada Revenue Agency requirements.
While you can defer some awards for up to a year through a written request, others won’t allow it. Contact our Student Awards Team to find out the conditions of your award (Contact form below).
For part-time study, most awards will be prorated based on credit hours. This means you can still claim the award but not the full amount. For example, if you are taking 60% of a full course load, you will receive 60% of the award amount. The remainder will not be carried forward. Please contact the Student Awards team for more information on specific awards (contact form below).
Winnipeg Foundation does not accept applications or select recipients. Applications are managed by the school, post-secondary institution or organization that administers each award.
Contact your guidance counsellor, student services office, financial aid office or the sponsoring organization for application information.
Other awards, – such as sports scholarships, professional development support and music awards, – are generally publicized by the sponsoring organization or association.
