New pieces by local artists add colour and vibrancy to The Foundation’s foyer
The front foyer of The Winnipeg Foundation’s office space is an integral point in shaping our organizational identity—whether it be through the experience of a new visitor, or an everyday staff inter action—the space provides an opportunity to create a place-based feeling of comfort, that is welcoming and reflects our values.
For the past decade, people had been welcomed by a colourful mosaic of pictures of community members, sector representatives, donors, and other stakeholders. As The Foundation embraces its second century and looks forward with a bold strategic plan and re freshed value set, we’ve revisited the presentation of this space. We believe the vibrancy and diversity in the array of community members, sector representatives, donors, stakeholders, Board, staff, and all others who visit us, must be reflected in the visual cues we present to our guests.
As part of this foyer ‘makeover,’ a diverse group of five local visual artists were recently commissioned to create a piece of art reflective of one of The Foundation’s values. You can see in the photos the re sults are breath-taking. We are thrilled and grateful for the resulting beautiful work that helps set the mood and tone of our workspace. We hope you will check out all the pieces—and the accompanying artists’ statements—the next time you stop by our offices.

Trust by KC Adams 3 “This design represents my interpretation of apenimonodan, the Anishinaabe word for trust. The design contains Indigenous knowledge that vibrates with a wealth of wisdom of living a good life of respect, balance, and hope.”
Responsiveness by Joanna Turner 1 4 “My piece uses line work as a visual representative of The Foundation’s dedication to active responsiveness in community. Here, this concept is interpreted as the lifeline of community, its pulse and the ever-constant adaptation to emergent community needs as they change – highs, lows, plateaus and in the in between.”
Equity by m. patchwork monoceros “Equity employs fabrics collected from artists and vendors across Turtle Island. The stacked blocks with their angular stitching illustrate the myriad of barriers facing oppressed communities that prevent their entirety as people from being considered and cared for.”
Generosity by Jonato Dalayoan “My piece interprets the word generosity using visual themes of the ripple effect and multiplication. Each small circle represents the impact at the centre, causing a chain reaction and amplifying on the initial act of generosity.”
Transformation by Bîstyek “The inspiration behind this piece stems from the power of art and community to drive social change. The inclusion of symbols like the heart and peace sign highlights the role of love and harmony in fostering transformation, while the raised hands underscore the idea of agency and the capacity to create meaningful change.”
