For Immediate Release: Wednesday, May 21, 2025 – The Winnipeg Foundation is proud to provide 37 charitable organizations with four consecutive years of stable, flexible funding – dollars that may be used at an organization’s discretion to fulfil its mission, mandate, and strategic plan. Each year for the next four years, $4.2 million will be distributed, with each organization receiving between $25,000 to $150,000 annually.
The Foundation recently relaunched its Multi-Year Grants program after a five-year hiatus. The program provides charities with financial security and the opportunity to do longer-term planning.
Organizations would have applied for a Multi-Year Grant in November 2024, and to be eligible, must have received a previous grant from The Foundation. Applications were assessed on the overall health of the organization and their diversity, equity, and inclusion practices. The Foundation’s focus for this round was for at least 50% of the Multi-Year Grant recipients to be equity-led, to align with the priorities identified in The Foundation’s Strategic Plan and organizational values.
“As a grantmaker, we proudly reaffirm our commitment to Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI), along with Truth and Reconciliation,” says Megan Tate, Winnipeg Foundation Vice President, Community Impact. “By weaving these principles into the Multi-Year program, we enhance equity in our city, and strengthen underrepresented groups in the philanthropic sector. This direction empowers us to balance the scales, embracing all the opportunities to learn, grow and walk alongside community.”
Of the 37 Multi-Year Grant recipients, 49% were categorized as equity-led, 27% as allies, and 24% with strong diversity, equity, and inclusion practices.
“Thank you for believing in TEEC and for your unwavering support over the years; The Foundation’s contributions have made us feel recognized and valued,” says Mathew Joseph, Programming and Special Projects, Director at The Excel Empowerment Centre Inc (TEEC).
The Multi-Year Grants Program was created in consultation with, and continues to evolve based on, input from Foundation partners in the charitable sector. The next intake deadline for this grant program is on September 12, 2025.
The Winnipeg Foundation is For Good. Forever. We help people give back to our shared community by connecting generous donors with causes they care about For Good. We are an endowment-based public foundation, so gifts are pooled and invested, while annual earnings are distributed back to the community Forever. Formed in 1921, we are proud to be the first community foundation in Canada.

2025 Multi-Year Grant Recipients
The Winnipeg Foundation recognizes definitions of Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging may not be universal. The Foundation defines equity-led and ally organizations as the following:
Equity-led organizations are created and led by members of their communities, with at least two-thirds of their senior staff and board members originating from the same community, and who serve their communities by offering unique services that align with their mission, with over 50% of their clients and community members coming from these groups. This includes individuals from Indigenous, Black, and racialized communities, as well as members of the 2SLGBTQ+ community and people with disabilities.
Ally organizations have been diligently developing their Diversity, Equity, Inclusion and Belonging practices over the years. They are now at a stage where these practices are embedded in their leadership, programs, and community engagement efforts, and they actively seek to refine and enhance them.
